Kale's Preschool Experience (part 1)

On June 2nd, Kale's Preschool Academy (Seton Academy) put on a Parent's Day presentation. They were asked to come dressed in their nicest clothes and were even encouraging the little guys to wear ties. As you can see from the pictures, Kale didn't like that idea, but he did agree to wear his sweater vest.

They sang a selection of songs that they had learned throughout the year as well as displayed their artwork and handwriting skills in their classrooms. Kale is quite the singer, for those of you who don't know, and when he knows the words to the song, he sings at the top of his lungs. He is not afraid to sing off key. He just loves to sing. Every week he would come home from school with a new song. He wanted our family to learn some of them so we could sing with him, but other's were "HIS"; songs only he would sing and if anyone tried to join in or learn the song, he would get very frustrated and ask us to stop singing with him. "Only me" he would say in a very serious tone and if we didn't stop, he would stop singing period. No amount of encouragement or bribery would get him to sing again.

He has really enjoyed preschool this year. He has learned to write his name and other easy words and has been practicing writing the letters of the alphabet and his numbers. He is very proud of himself and love to write words on any paper he gets ahold of. We are learning (again) not to leave any important documents or papers around, because sooner or later he will find them and write on them.
Kale made several friends this year. But he had two BFFs. First, there is Marcus (he is the little boy in the first picture). He would come home almost everyday with a new story about Marcus. They loved to play together and often caused mischief together. But, according to his teacher, they were also the class clowns and kept everyone laughing. There was also a little, blond boy named Aidan. They loved to play "small skateboards" together and by the end of the year, they had learned to launch them off the table and across the room with very little effort. They loved competing against each other to see who could "catch the most air" and who could "fly" the furthest.
Kale was in a speech class this last year and would go across the street to the Elementary School one day a week for personal time with a speech therapist. When he first joined the program we could only understand about 25% of what he said. By the end of the year, we could understand 85-90% of his words and he now seems to have the confidence and skills to communicate in full sentences and help us to understand what he is saying if we don't understand his words. One more year and he should be where he belongs.

He is very excited for the summer but can't wait to go back in the fall and see Marcus and Aidan and be in a new classroom as a 4 year old. We love Kale and are proud of his growth and accomplishments. We look forward to the future and what it will bring.
