Kenny Loses a Tooth

Kenny came home from Utah with an abscessing front tooth. On Monday we took him to the dentist to find out what was causing it. At the dentist, they took an x-ray and learned that the tooth had "died" and that was causing the infection. We decided that he permanent tooth would be in soon, so they YANKED out the tooth and sent it home with his in a little plastic tooth he could wear around his neck.
He was so excited to finally loose a tooth (even if it was not by natural means). All he could talk about was the tooth fairy, the hole that was now in his mouth and the cool things he could do with it. He was so excited that he could stick his tongue through it and make cool sounds. He could breathe through the gap and stick a straw there and drink through it.

My little boy is growing up and as much as I miss the baby, toddler and pre-schooler, these new experience and the "daily routine" of a big boy is fun to be part of. I look forward to watching and being a part of the growth and learning that is a large part of the next few years of his life. He will lose the rest of his teeth over time and continue to get taller and heavier and gain new skills and abilities and I am looking forward to witness and join in on these changes.

  1. Cassidy's first lost tooth was traumatic. She sobbed and finally confessed that "She didn't want to be an adult". It dawned on me then that we had been telling her that her "adult teeth" would come in. She made the intellectual leap that this would force her to be an adult. Poor little thing.
Congratulations, Kenny! Big day. Now the trick is figuring out what to do with the money the tooth fairy gives you. Good luck.
